Down Here and Over There |
Down Here and Over There is a collection of short stories dealing with real-life problems: Boyd Jarman in his campaign for the County Superintendency of Public Instruction, the narrator in his attempt to come to grips with the bullies in the "Boy Scout" camp, Clayton Hurel in dealing with his envious neighbors, Lieutenant Adamson in search of a just resolution for General Stewart in the investigation to determine if he is a murderer, Judge Blanton in his efforts to avoid a murder rap, and the narrator who fails to address an injustice head on. In addition to their appeal to the general population, selected stories from the book are suitable for a school class assignment because five of them show characters correctly addressing the situation, while the sixth story tells of the anguish experienced by a person who allows events to take their course and does not become involved. |
